Early this November the Team at SSS Strawberries attended Guerrilla Business School by T.Harv Eker.

As you can see from the photo above they had a blast.

Leaders as usual.

Gina took Control of the room and got the temperature from ZERO to  190 Degrees in about several seconds.

In addition to having fun and learning we had an experience unlike any other.

If you are familiar to the concept of Personal Development then you would understand what I am about to say, this one event has not only given us the tools to take SSS to new heights in business but our family has gotten closer.

For the first time our CEO let it lose and was pouncing all across the stage.

Overall we had fun learning some new business tactics.

I would recommend this event to any business individual looking to take your business to another level.

Get in contact with us and ask us more about it we would love to share.

Have a great day! 🙂

Queensland Strawberry Association Community Award

Queensland Strawberry Grower’s Association Awarded SSS Strawberries
with a Community Award certificate for significant contribution to the community…

It’s always an honor to receive recognitions for efforts of any of your work. In this case, receiving a Community Award from the QSGA means a lot to SSS.

As a business owner and a working family man, the opportunity to contribute to the community is a blessing in it self. I am a true believer in “what you give is what you get” and “karma does do good to those who do good to others!”

On top of this I believe that giving is ultimate success secret. If I give and constantly give whether I am earning a $30k annual income or $100k annual income I am in fact training my subconscious mind to see the world in abundance. If I see the world in abundance then it means I believe that there’s plenty resources in the world for others and me whether it would be money or food, water, shelter etc.

This belief is a a well known belief now backed by many scientists and many well known authors world wide, if you want to learn more search  for “The Secrets”DVD and you will see! 🙂

SETTING sights high paid off for the organisers of the region’s first ever Bargara Strawberry Fair at the weekend, which attracted a crowd of 6000 people.

It was also a pat on the back for Bundaberg region strawberry growers, who used Saturday’s event to welcome themselves back into the season after recent wet weather wreaked havoc on their crops.

Organiser Beth Scott said the successful community event had been “fabulous but frantic”.

“We wanted to do something for our community that was family friendly and affordable,” she said.

“We wanted to promote local strawberry growing.”

Mrs Scott said SSS Strawberries, Tinaberries and Bed

rock Berries had stalls at the fair, with Bundaberg Berries, Bargara Berries and Winter Berries supplying stock which was sold on the day.

“A lot of the stall holders didn’t think they’d come on board, but they did,” she said.

Mrs Scott said she had expected a big crowd.

“We decided to start big straight away,” she said.

“If you do something impressive, people will come back.”

What made the event so successful, according to Mrs Scott, was that it was as low-cost for families as possible.

“It will always be no entry fee,” she said.

Mrs Scott said her biggest criticism was the event had been “terribly understaffed”.

“Some things planned for the day didn’t work as well or slipped away because we didn’t have the manpower,” she said.

Mrs Scott said the fair was also a fundraising day for Coral Coast Community Care, which runs programs including Menshed and Bubs and Kids.

“We’d hope to walk away with $10,000,” she said.

Coral Coast Chamber of Commerce vice-president Vince Urquhart said the event had been “great” for business.

Next year’s strawberry fair will be held on Saturday August 3.

WORLD REFUGEE DAY: Tam Dang of SSS Strawberries shares his story
about being a refugee. Photo: Mike Knott / NewsMail

TAM Dang was just three years old when he and his six brothers and sisters were pulled from their beds in the middle of the night and placed on a boat for a one-way trip to a new country and a new life.

Tam’s parents took the ultimate gamble, making the choice to immigrate to Australia from Vietnam in the ’80s but it’s one that has paid off by the punnet-full.

“In the middle of the night they put all us kids in a little boat and our uncle took us out to a bigger boat,” Mr Dang said.

“That was the end of Vietnam for us.

“When we left they were going to leave my brother behind because if you all leave, they confiscate everything you own and if we were caught by the Viet Cong, then we would have had something to go back to, but because no one was there, they took everything we had.”

“It was quite a big decision to all go but for her (my mum), if we died, we died together.”

Mr Dang and his family are known around Bundaberg as the people responsible for the hugely successful SSS Strawberries.

After fleeing Vietnam, the family faced a four-year wait at the Galang Refugee Camp in Indonesia while their applications to move to Australia went through the correct channels.

“We were in barracks and we slept on the floors and it got so crowded,” Mr Dang said.

“We were let out and they said, ‘you’ll be here for a long time so build your own houses and farm your own crops’.

“We kept one of the monkeys as a pet, which was really cool.”

Four years later, the family stepped foot on Australian soil for the first time.

“That was huge for me, coming to Australia, because I felt there was hope,” he said.

“Coming to Australia I felt anything and everything is possible.”

Mr Dang said his family made the gamble to start their strawberry farm despite there being only one other farm of its type in the area.

“It was another huge gamble but I think it was the best decision,” he said.

“Bundaberg has been huge in making us a success and we really thank the community for that.”

Mr Dang said no matter where the family was, they would have strived for success.

“Life is a gamble – you don’t know what the future will hold,” he said.

“We have that mentality to battle on and I think that would be the same whether we were living here or in Vietnam.

“We’re very very traditional and we stick together like glue.”

Mr Dang said he couldn’t imagine living elsewhere.

“I have been extremely blessed,” he said.

“I grew to love this place and I am full of gratitude every day.”

UPDATE: SSS Strawberries has had their development application to build a giant strawberry building approved.

EARLIER: The fate of a giant strawberry that could herald a delicious new era of tourism in Bundaberg will be decided at a council meeting tomorrow.

——————————————————————

SSS Strawberries has proposed to build a big strawberry which will act as a shop, cafe, education tour and offices and tomorrow’s planning committee meeting is D-Day for the big decision.

Toan Nguyen, whose family owns and runs SSS, said the family was excited to find out the project’s fate after a year-long planning and application process.

“It’s been a long process but we should know very soon,” Mr Nguyen said.

“We have been in Bundaberg for six years and the Bundaberg community has helped us a lot and we want to give back.”

Bundaberg and North Burnett Tourism manager general manager Rick Matkowski said the big strawberry would be a great way to promote the region as a fresh food destination.

“I think it would become a good landmark that people could go and visit,” he said.

“Certainly the region is known as one of the food bowls of Australia.

“We’ve got some great fresh food here, particularly the horticulture and seafood.”

Mr Matkowski said as long as the strawberry was done tastefully, it would be a great asset.

“It’s a great place to have it because that area there is the working SSS farm,” he said.

“There’s not a lot of big things north of New South Wales and Southern Queensland.”

Mr Matkowski said the proposed cafe would also be a plus for the Bundaberg community.

“These are the sorts of amenities people are looking for,” he said.

Rena Dang, Gina Dang and Trinity Dang with the fresh strawberries from SSS Strawberries.

WE ALL know about the Big Pineapple, the Big Banana and the Big Mango – but soon Bundaberg might have its very own Big Strawberry.

North Bundaberg farm SSS Strawberries plans to build a $3 million strawberry-shaped building that would act as a new tourist attraction and show off the region as a horticulture hub.

The 500sq m building would be used as offices, a restaurant and souvenir store, and would also feature an educational section showing how strawberries are produced.

Trinity Dang, public relations officer for the family owned SSS Strawberries, said it was hoped the Big Strawberry would attract people not just to their business, but to draw attention to the region as a whole.

“We are hoping to attract tourists to the Bundaberg region,” she said.

A planning application has been submitted to Bundaberg Regional Council, and members of the public can make submissions on the proposal until August 13.

SSS Strawberries is run by the second generation of the Dang family and now employs five Bundaberg people full time, and between 50 and 300 part-time workers depending on the season.

Miss Dang, the second youngest of the siblings, said the Big Strawberry would be the continuation of the family’s long, hard road to making the business a success.

She said when the family started the farm, they were more than $2 million in debt.

Now they supply Coles and Woolworths supermarkets with strawberries along the east coast of Australia.

“It’s been tough. We know the value of money,” she said.

The seven children of the family have been running the business for the past six years.

Trinity, Victor, Toan, Gina, Tam, Rena and Cindy all have different roles on the farm: chemicals, finance, public relations, packing and dispatch of goods, marketing and sales, and future growth and planning.

The siblings, who are aged between 21 and 36, have a weekly meeting in order to run the business.

“We all started in the fields and we can fill in each other’s roles,”
Miss Dang said.
